Many people dream of learning to fly planes but very few actually take steps to pursue this dream. If you are determined to try flight lessons for yourself, we at High Tide Aviation can provide the expert instruction you need. With that said, there are still some key things you should know before you start this process, and we have put together this article to give you that information.

What You Need to Know Before You Start Flight Lessons

  • Communication is Key. One of the most important things to know before you begin flight lessons is that communication is paramount. In order to successfully learn to fly, you’ll need to communicate clearly with your instructor, laying out your expectations and goals, and speaking up whenever you have a question. This principle also holds true for the instructors–you need to be able to count on them to give you the information you need in a way that you can understand. With our one-on-one instruction, training can easily be curtailed to a per-student basis.
  • Preparation Goes a Long Way. Next, you should always come to your flight lessons prepared with the right supplies. For example, we encourage you to get a kneeboard–essentially a clipboard that straps to the knee/thigh area–so that you can easily check reference materials in the cockpit. It’s also a good idea to prepare some of these reference materials for your own use. Many of our students write out scripts for various radio contact situations, for example, or print out maps of the airport to refer to while taxiing. Materials can be obtained on your own or through our office.
  • Commit to Continuous Learning. Lastly, we want you to know that you should continue to hone your skills even after you’ve completed your flight lessons. Practice various takeoffs, landings, and other maneuvers in order to keep your skills sharp and stay safe in the air and on the ground.
